Well – Monday eve was (I think) a record breaker – there were 45 of us strumming in the first session! and it sounded fantastic. I particularly love seeing new players strumming alongside those who have been coming for months (nearly years!). It is such a lovely atmosphere at The Woolpack on a Monday eve and always starts my week off with a bang.
and then we started looking at this new song… the chords are straightforward but the rhythm can be tricky, especially if you do not know the song too well. Johnny sneaks in a few bars of 2/4 time in amongst the 4/4 time – but listen to the demo and follow the music – you will notice a pattern when the 2/4 bars occur, which is more obvious if you listen to what the singing is doing. the tab sounded awesome too!
Remember to keep a track on the gigs page for up and coming dates for your diary – I’m really excited that we are already getting some great events booked in for spring and summer. It’s going to be a great year – and soon all this grey weather will be a distant memory!
Well we had an action packed few days this past weekend! Our gig at Cafe Lux raising money for The Haven Breast Cancer Support charity on Friday was fantastic. There was a great turn out and over £500 was raised. Lesley and Jill did a fantastic job of organising the event and I was so pleased that the OUO could provide the entertainment.
Last night we played for our friends at Tealbeck and I was overwhelmed with the amount of OUO members who came along. We have been asked back again and the feedback from the staff was very complimentary!
So we went back to The Woolpack for a session last night and looked at 2 new songs!
Happy chords only – recorded slightly slower so you can practise along.
Happy is in the same key as Pharrell’s version so you can play along with his record. It’s a great song – don’t be put off by the chords – remember the little finger trick – it stays on the 3rd fret on the A string throughout the chorus… it will really speed up the chord changes.
This week’s session was surely fun and full of energy. No matter how tired/lethargic/grey I may feel on a Monday… by the time 7pm comes around I know my day is going to improve. That’s the power of music… and the power of participating in music with other people who feel the same!
