places are filling up fast for this September’s Ukulele Crash Course!
spread the word and email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) to book your place.
I will be running more courses throughout the year too.
well there certainly isn’t any rest for us…not even after the incredible SUMMER PARTY on friday evening (see photographic highlights below!)
We have 2 more gigs left for the summer season so we spent last night getting ready for them!
here are the set lists (amended) for
THURSDAY 25th @ SELA BAR, LEEDS and SUNDAY 28th @ OTLEY FARMERS MARKET
you will notice the addition of a new song (which we did last night for the first time and it sounded AWESOME!)
it’s a nice and simple chord progression with a little dynamic detail and tab part. have a listen to the original song as you can play along because it is in the same key!
here are the other songs we looked at in more detail last night….
OAC one day like this – MP3 One Day Like This
i have asked people to get in touch if they are driving to the gig and can offer lifts – also if anyone needs lifts… I will try and match people up!
if you’re getting the bus you need to get the X84 at 20:32 from Otley to get you to the Sela Bar for 22:00
it should be a total blast!!
i will leave you with these incredible photos from Friday evening – courtesy of Andy Hoyle of the Otley Camera Club http://www.otleycameraclub.co.uk
A massive thanks to Chris and all the staff at Korks (www.korks.co.uk) too… we had a great time
Well it’s thrown me all out of sync having to move the session to a Tuesday! Aren’t we creatures of habit!
But we had a lovely al fresco session yet again thanks to this amazing weather. It’s going to be weird playing inside after all this outside strumming!
We did lots of work for our gig on Friday
Here are the songs we looked at in specific detail!
OAC one day like this – MP3… have a listen
OUO PUSH IT MP3 – have a listen…
You can find the set list for Friday (and next Thursday!) here…
I would like to have our final session on 29th July as a bit of a open session, where people bring in their favourite songs to strum at home that we haven’t covered on a Monday. And maybe some favourites from over the year thrown in for good measure. If you email me copies or bring physical copies over next couple of weeks we can have a big sing to finish off the year, and maybe a little party at the same time!
So that’s enough from me…
See you Friday
1. wear blue top (just make sure you will be cool – generally and temperature wise!) 😉
2. doors are at 7:30pm – we will be playing first at approx 8pm
3. we’re going to finish with ONE DAY LIKE THIS with the Otley A Cappella choir – we won’t sing until the refrain at the end
4. bring everyone you can! it’s going to be awesome!
please remember we will not be having a Ukulele Orchestra session this evening as it is our young people’s end of term showcase at the Courthouse!
instead we will be meeting tomorrow (TUES 16th) at 6:30pm.
If you can make it down tonight to support our Junior Orchestra, choir and rock bands then you’s be more than welcome! doors are at 7:30pm and it will be 3 pounds to get in.
See you very soon!
Here’s the set list!
See you there 😉
MAMMA MIA IS IN THE SET!
We had another fantastic session last night and it was lovely to play outside the Woolpack for 2 whole hours. I am sure our new neighbours at North Bar loved the entertainment and we got some applause from various passers by!
So the first session we had a look at some of our sing a-long specials including
Bye Bye Love (OUO) – NEW!
which i think you’ll agree is quite a lot to cram into an hour!
then we looked to our Kirkstall gig on Saturday (yes, this Saturday!) and worked on
OUO PUSH IT PUSH IT MP3
Remember to keep listening to PUSH IT so you are familiar with where the chords drop out. the key to this song is humour, which will come when we feel more confident with it!
So I have mentioned a song I would like to do with the OTLEY A CAPPELLA choir at the Korks gig…and I think it will be an excellent ‘end-of-nighter’. We haven’t had chance to look at it as a group but if you get chance to have a listen then please do. There are only 4 chords and so it is fairly straight forward…download the PDF and have a listen…
OAC one day like this ONE DAY LIKE THIS MP3
ONE DAY LIKE THIS UKE ONLY copy ONE DAY LIKE THIS UKE ONLY MP3
and we will go through it together on TUESDAY 16th! Remember there is no session on MON 15th as me and Richard will be at the Courthouse with the Junior Ukulele Orchestra and all the other young people we have been working with this term. Please come down and support the event if you can… I know the young people are really excited to play so it would be wonderful to see a packed out room. Show starts at 7:30pm and you can buy your excellent value tickets on the door.
and one last thing I promise!
Please start spreading the word about OUR end of term party! It’s going to be so much fun….there will be music, dancing, singing and fun!!
well that’s enough for now i reckon!
See you all soon (remember extra rehearsal this Friday 12th…7pm at the Woolpack)
well what a session it was last night? it was lovely to welcome new players with new ukuleles and seeing those of you that have been coming a while helping them out. you guys really are awesome! we covered a lot of ground last night and with 4 gigs coming up in the next 4 weeks….we had a lot to do!
in the first session we covered
then in the second session we concentrated on 2 new songs for the gigs coming up…
have a listen to the demo of PUSH IT here (it is recorded slightly slower) so you can follow where parts come in and out – the key to this song is in the detail! it sounded really good by the end…
and don’t forget you can also play along to Funkytown by listening to the Youtube tutorial…
so it’s a busy and exciting time for the OUO!
please look at the updated calendar for july as we have had to move the 15th July session to Tuesday 16th…apologies for the inconvenience… but it is unavoidable! but you can come and support the junior OUO at the Courthouse that night instead!
and finally…here are the set lists (order of songs to be fine tuned a little!) for the gigs this month
I really hope you will be able to come and join in with some (if not all!) of the gigs! the gigs really are a great experience and just so much fun. If you are not feeling confident with the songs please come to the sessions between now and the gigs and get practising! i want everyone who wants to join in to join in…everyone is welcome. the sessions will really help you develop your confidence.
think that is everything!
take care and keep on strummin’! 🙂
