We love a good weather related song here at Otley Ukulele Orchestra!
We have been looking at this song in the 7pm-8pm session and we will be perfoming it with Otley A Cappella choir on 24th July at our summer concert at Korks. Hope you can make it!
Have a listen to the demo I have recorded… hope it will give you a sense of what it will sound like! There are several ukulele parts – 2 chords and 2 tab/fingerpicking. It really adds some depth to the arrangement and sounds lovely in the group.
Friday evening was the Strum Like George Formby workshop led by John Bramall – it was a fun but challenging evening! I hope we can organise a follow on class as it was really good to learn new techniques. A big thank you to all who attended – we raised £115 towards our Youth Music project here at The Woolpack Studios.
The Triple Strum!
On Saturday we played for the Dry Stone Wall Associations 15th Anniversary at Weston Lane Social, which was really fun. We were welcomed by lovely people and had amazing food too! Big thanks to everyone who played – it sounded really good. All the practise has paid off!
On Stage at Weston Lane Social Club
At last night’s sessions we looked at a few new songs as well as ones we have worked on for a while including
From Me To You
Little Things Mean A Lot
Close To You
It’s My Party
Walk Like An Egyptian
Have a listen to my demo here…
Our first official weekend away is this FRIDAY! Expect a few photos and stories from BUNKULELE soon 🙂 If you’re in Grassington this weekend then come and say hello from 3pm at The Forresters Arms where we will be playing.
We’ll be playing at Tealbeck on the 23rd February so there will be no 7pm – 8pm session that day. All are welcome to come and play though! Here are the songs we are doing…
It was wonderful to celebrate our 2nd birthday with you all this week. I just can’t believe it! A massive thank you to all of you who come to our Monday sessions, whether you come every week or every once in a while… you all contribute to making OUO what it is; which is the best band ever! i love you guys! long may it continue!
check out the demo on YouTube
we did some great work on this last week and it is coming together really well. I know some of the chords and tab parts are a little complex (that’s Queen for ya!) but with more perseverance it will sound even more awesome!
We had another great session on Monday – more strumming and singing fun!
There is absolutely loads of gigs coming up so I hope that you will be able to join in some of this seasons fun. keep and eye out on Facebook for more regular updates – but May is looking to be particularly busy. We have a couple of Dementia Awareness Week performances where we will be getting Dementia Cafe goers to sing with us in Headingley (12th May) and at The Courthouse (18th May). Not to mention gigs at Weston Lane Social for BLISS and Sue Ryder (10th May), a private party (11th May) and The Environment Agency Summer Fayre (17th May)!
looking forward to seeing you all again very soon… but in the meantime, keep on strumming. Things that you think you can’t do are only a matter of time and energy… believe me! We all learn at different rates and in different ways so keep on trying
Well we had an action packed few days this past weekend! Our gig at Cafe Lux raising money for The Haven Breast Cancer Support charity on Friday was fantastic. There was a great turn out and over £500 was raised. Lesley and Jill did a fantastic job of organising the event and I was so pleased that the OUO could provide the entertainment.
Last night we played for our friends at Tealbeck and I was overwhelmed with the amount of OUO members who came along. We have been asked back again and the feedback from the staff was very complimentary!
a) lots of fun singing and strumming together
b) showing audiences far and wide how much fun we have singing and strumming together
don’t think i’m asking too much eh?!
well – we have had a little break and I have been busy working on songs to kick start our year in style. as always – I love your suggestions and so be patient… if you have asked for a song there is a good chance i have forgotten – you can always email me so you know i have it written down somewhere!
Our first session on a Monday 7pm-8pm is a fun sing-a-long suitable for players of all abilities. Complete beginners are welcome but may benefit from an hours tuition at some point. The second session 8pm-9pm is for anyone who would like to push their playing on by learning songs we will perform at gigs. Of course, all are welcome and if you do come to the second session there is no pressure to perform at concerts!
EVER FALLEN IN LOVE….????
We had a look at this song only once before the Christmas rush took hold (photos are on their way!). I have managed to get round to doing a little demo for you so you can hear the strumming. It isn’t as hard as it sounds… although you do need to use bar chords so if you’ve struggled with these in the past, start having a go now! remember to have breaks when you’re practising bar chords to give your muscles a rest. use your thumb behind your first finger to get extra strength – the thumb should be on the middle of the neck (so someone in front of you couldn’t see it)
