i was absolutely over the moon to welcome some new people along tonight and hope that they enjoyed it! we covered a lot of material and it made me think how much we have come and how much we have covered in the 6 short months we have been going. there were some great moments for me this evening – learning QUE SERA SERA was one of them (this was requested by the residents of Teal Beck after last week) and how lovely it sounded right from the first run through.
we also revisited I Walk the Line (amended), Get Back (amended), SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY and THRILLER amended!!! also on the SPOOK-U-LELE vibe we learnt a new scary song (there will be one a week until the gig – be warned!!!) BLACK MAGIC WOMAN chords and lyrics which sounded AWESOME, especially with the lead parts….which you can find here Black Magic Woman TAB. even in the short time we had left at the end the parts were all coming together.
and the guys at our favourite otley pub hang out (the old cock) are excited about our gig on 31st october – it’s going to be a great night so please make sure you have your witches hat and broomstick ready! the poster is up so it is official – a massive THANK YOU to richard for helping make my poster idea an actual poster…. i was pretty bossy 😉 !
SPREAD THE WORD!
playing the ukulele with us is guaranteed to CHANGE YOUR LIFE!
well we were lucky to have the second ever outdoor orchestra in the sunshine this last monday (even if we were being overlooked by regulars of the ring o’bells!!)
we did some really good work consolidating THREE LITTLE BIRDS and MR TAMBOURINE MAN (Chords + Lyrics) this week. we really concentrated on the lead parts making the songs come alive. i couldn’t believe how quickly the time passed on monday – but the progress made in that short time was amazing. it really is great to see people having a go at the lead parts and pushing themselves to improve skills.
so next monday is bank holiday and we will be meeting up as usual…and going for a pint after too! don’t forget to bring a blue (any shade) t-shirt/top (cotton/not shiny) if you want to get an official OUO logo for our next performance! not only are we going to sound amazing but we are going to look HOT too!
we had another useful recap session last night and really got to grips with some of the tab parts for STAND BY ME – sheet music and THREE LITTLE BIRDS Bob Marley. next week we will have another look at DON’T WORRY BE HAPPY.
i think it’s really helpful (and also encouraging as we are now noticing a real improvement) to spend a bit of time on the arrangements each week. i want to keep it interesting though so i am having a think about what song we could tackle next!
in other news….some more music stands are on their way to the woolpack so we don’t have to balance music on our knees! i am also going to embrace the wonderful world of music notation as i appreciate that reading TAB is not for everyone. thank you for bearing with me on this one….i don’t think i can put it off any longer. be prepared for many schoolgirl errors!
so for those of you who missed last night, have been away for a few weeks or thinking about joining us for the first time….have a look at recap week – 25.06.12 to get the lowdown on the chords we have learned so far.
any questions/comments/suggestions welcome!
