I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has come on a Monday night, played at one of our gigs or been to see us play live in 2014. We’ve had an incredible year… the carnival, the Tour De France, Kirkstall Festival, Otley Beer Festival, Tealbeck, Dementia Cafes, Spookulele not to mention all the wonderful Christmas gigs we have done this year. It’s been amazing.
2015 will be full of new songs and new adventures together. I hope you can be a part of it!
Wishing you and your nearest and dearest a very Merry Christmas! And if you’re free on Christmas Day we’ll be singing carols at Tealbeck at 2pm… meet us at The Woolpack 1:45pm.
What a great kick start to the new season we had last night at The Woolpack Studios? It was so great to see so many familiar faces and to welcome new ones too into out Ukulele Family!
There are loads of events and concerts to look forward to between now and Christmas… so make sure you keep up to date by being on the emailing list (email firstname.lastname@example.org to be put on) or ‘like’ our page on Facebook.
I have also updates the Calendar which you can access by going to the tabs at the top of the home page.
We are very lucky to have such talent in our group. This next song ‘You Are Beautiful’ is written by OUOs very own Darren Smith. We started to work on this last night – a lovely song with a nice strumming pattern and tab parts too. The melody is so catchy… I’ve been humming it for weeks!
Have a listen to Darren playing it here (there is also a tutorial for the different parts too…) and listen out for his pet who is obviously wanting to join in
We had another great session on Monday – more strumming and singing fun!
There is absolutely loads of gigs coming up so I hope that you will be able to join in some of this seasons fun. keep and eye out on Facebook for more regular updates – but May is looking to be particularly busy. We have a couple of Dementia Awareness Week performances where we will be getting Dementia Cafe goers to sing with us in Headingley (12th May) and at The Courthouse (18th May). Not to mention gigs at Weston Lane Social for BLISS and Sue Ryder (10th May), a private party (11th May) and The Environment Agency Summer Fayre (17th May)!
well what a session it was last night? it was lovely to welcome new players with new ukuleles and seeing those of you that have been coming a while helping them out. you guys really are awesome! we covered a lot of ground last night and with 4 gigs coming up in the next 4 weeks….we had a lot to do!
and don’t forget you can also play along to Funkytown by listening to the Youtube tutorial…
so it’s a busy and exciting time for the OUO!
please look at the updated calendar for july as we have had to move the 15th July session to Tuesday 16th…apologies for the inconvenience… but it is unavoidable! but you can come and support the junior OUO at the Courthouse that night instead!
I really hope you will be able to come and join in with some (if not all!) of the gigs! the gigs really are a great experience and just so much fun. If you are not feeling confident with the songs please come to the sessions between now and the gigs and get practising! i want everyone who wants to join in to join in…everyone is welcome. the sessions will really help you develop your confidence.
