SPRING – SUMMER 2018

We’ve had a wonderful term learning new songs and and playing ukulele together! We have our end of term gig on Saturday 24th March, then we’ll have a session on 26th March as usual before 2 week break for Easter. It will be a busy Spring/Summer Term with preparations for Tour De Yorkshire, Otley Carnival, Otley Walking Festival and Kirkstall Festival to name but four! Keep an eye on our GIGS page for more!

Oh, and we’ll also be 6 years old! 🙂

Mondays 7:30pm-8:30pm and 8:30pm-9:30pm (£5 for one session, £6 for both)

OUO News December 2017

We only have 4 sessions left for 2017 ! I can’t believe how fast this year has flown!

Sessions will run as normal (7:30pm-8:30pm and 8:30pm-9:30pm)

Monday 27th November, 4th, 11th and 18th December.

We will be back in business on 8th January 2018.

We have a Christmas Show at Otley parish Church on Saturday 9th December from 3:30pm along with Otley A Cappella Choir and Woolpack Music Social Club. From 6pm that day we will all be having a party at The Woolpack Studios, with beer from Briscoe’s Brewery, Pie and Peas from All Good Things Community Food Project and an open mic session (please let us know if you’d like to play!). All are welcome. We hope to see you here very soon 🙂

 

Otley Town Mayor’s Christmas Concert

We are delighted to have been invited to play at Otley Methodist Church for this year’s Town Mayor Christmas Concert, along with Otley Bell and Chime Orchestra and Otley Brass Band! The concert will be on Saturday 25th November at 7:30pm – get your tickets now (see below for details) !

SPOOKULELE 2017

OUO to appear at Otley Folk Festival!

Come and see us play outside The Woolpack Studios as part of this year’s Black Sheep Brewery Otley Folk Festival!

There will be live music, food from All Good Things and a Real Ale bar at The Woolpack Studios Saturday 16th September 12pm-8pm
Sunday 17th September 12pm-5pm

We’re kicking things off 12pm on Sunday 17th. We’ve got a great set together so come and see us!

On Saturday, there’ll be. few familiar faces performing too… Debra, John, Tom and Dean have been working on an arrangement of War Of The Worlds on ukulele called (wait for it) ULLALELE! We can’t wait to see them in action!

Also you’ll recognise other OUO players performing in different groups: Simon Carey with Currie and Carey – Simon will be playing harmonica and mandolin in addition to his trusty Uke! The Broomies will also be making an appearance with their ukulele, guitar and vocal loveliness!

It’s going to be a brilliant weekend… hope to see you there 🙂

Ukulele for Beginners and Improvers starting this September!

Fancy learning the ukulele with us or improving your techniques such as bar chords and TAB? Then book yourself on one of our fun and friendly ukulele courses!

9-week courses starting Tuesday 26th September 

• September: 26th
• October: 3rd, 10th, 17th, 31st 
• November: 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th

BEGINNERS 7:15pm – 8:15pm- £80.00  

This course is designed for total beginners and those who would like to refresh their skills after having some time away from playing. The course will be relaxed and fun and at a pace suitable for new players. You will learn in a small and friendly group environment:

• how to get the best sound from your ukulele
• good playing techniques
• basic strumming patterns
• how to read song sheets with lyrics and chords
• songs using basic chords
• an introduction to playing single notes

IMPROVERS 8.30pm-9.30pm- £80.00 

This course is suitable for those who have enjoyed the Beginners Course or for people with a good grasp of the basic chords (C, C7, F, G, G7, Am) who want to continue on their ukulele journey. We will cover more open position chords and learn about moveable chords and bar chords as well as developing our strumming. We will also cover finger-picking and TAB (playing melodies).

WALKULELE

Join us at 7:30pm Friday 30th June for a magical musical tour of Otley with the Walking Festival! We’ll sing, we’ll laugh, we’ll walk a little and we may partake in a beer or two at some of Otley’s finest establishments (you’ll have to come and find out which pubs we’ll be visiting!) All welcome… the event is free but please bring some change as we’ll be raising money of Otley Walking Festival.
